If You’re Ordinary…You’ve Got the Job

I recently had a conversation with a student that told me; “I want to learn how to share the Gospel with my friends…but I don’t think I can. I’m not special like pastors, youth workers, or evangelists. I’m just an ordinary teen.” My heart felt joy AND heartbreak as I heard those words.

Did you know God is looking for the ordinary? I shared with the student that Jesus chose twelve ordinary men to be His disciples to tell others the TRUTH.

When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus. Acts 4:13

Of those twelve, several were fisherman. Simon Peter was impulsive, but boldly preached about Jesus. James was short-tempered but deeply commited to Jesus. Andrew was eager to share Jesus with others. Bartholomew was straightforward and honest. John was judgmental but very loving. And Philip had a questioning attitude, but God uses our questions to teach us.

And of the twelve one was a tax collector hated because of his profession, but Matthew gave up his profession of profit to follow Jesus. And did you know Jesus chose a politician; Simon the Zealot. All throughout scritpure we see how God used ordinary people to tell others the TRUTH. So if you’re ordinary…you’ve got the job.
