Why Do You (Teens) Go to Church/Youth Group?

I remember going to youth group. That’s where my best friend and I spent most of our time hanging out. To this day we recall memories of First Baptist Church of Willingboro Youth Group. Youth group is also where we experienced snow tubing in a whole new way. I still have a scar from that one time when I…well never mind. And youth group is where we met Mom2, one our youth leaders that was not only a teacher but like a second mom. So what are your reasons for going to church/youth group?

Some would say teens go just for the fun stuff. Other say they go because Mom made them. I’ve read and heard many different reasons why teens go to church/youth group. For the most part every reason I’ve heard has come from other youth workers, churches, pastors, youth magazines, parents and even my own thoughts over the years. But I’d like to hear directly from you, the teenagers and allow you to use the voice God has given you. Post your comments giving me your reasons why you attend church/youth group and in the next couple of days I’ll post the results of this little survey in the form of a Top Ten List on my blog as well as on the IYM website. David Letterman has his list, why not have one of our own.

I go to youth group because my mom is now strictly forcing me to. I used to love my church group (from birth to middle school), but then it just got too fake for me. A bunch of girls were totally “excluding” me and making me feel really out of place there, and I realized that I just didn’t enjoy it. It wasn’t really about God anymore. Then our youth pastor left to go to seminary, and we got a new one. So I haven’t been in awhile, putting excuses on homework and theatre practice. Now that our play is over, my mom has been freaking out about me going back.
